Here are some of the big ideas from our discussion on helping adolescents develop faith in light of their brain development.
- Helping students wrestle with connecting concepts is helpful for making connections in their brain
- Lecture style teaching might be the least effective for adolescence. (and probably adults)
- Our churches develop our expectations around 40 year old adults and we’ve placed the same expectations on 15 year olds
- 15-year-olds aren’t being disingenuous with their inconsistency. Adults usually are
- A disciples isn’t one who has arrived, it is one who is on a journey
- By making a singular program that students move through, we’ll miss 80% of the students
- We’ve got to create a space where students can be honest
- We’re youth pastors and we tend to do too much talking. And we’re uncomfortable with silence

Great question: I think it warrants another blog post.
