Why I sold my xbox 360

I’m selling my xbox 360.

Here is why:

  • I play too much. Sure this could be remedied by playing less, but if I play less, there is still no reason to invest the money in an xbox live account. Either I play too much or waste my money, either way it’s a waste.
  • I wrecked my car. It wasn’t too damaging of a crash, but we didn’t have the money laying around to get it repaired. Our finances our pretty tight since we’re working (slowly) through Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover plan and opting to live a life without credit cards. Because of the wrecked car, the money had to come from somewhere.

But the biggest reason:

  • The game I most frequently played, Call of Duty 2: modern warfare, tracks the amount of real time you play the game online (not including playing through missions). My time had jumped up to 5 days and 7 hours. That’s a work week of my life. I could have done A TON of stuff during that time.

Maybe it’s just me, but I hate realizing that I’ve wasted that much time. I hate getting a full night’s sleep because it’s a waste of so much time.

**To those of you who don’t play video games, you’re going to think that the 5 days and 7 hours I’ve logged is pretty ridiculous. But if you’re a gamer, you’re not going accuse me of not playing that often…

Dude – BALANCE is what you should be looking for … right? Hate to see you go … from one gamer to another … JG

I admire the courage it took to do this. That takes a lot of testicular fortitude to look at something you love to do so much, but you know is such a time waster, and say, “I’m done with you.” Hopefully this allows you to spend more time on other (and more important) things in your life.

Idolatry – the same reason I sold mine over 3 years ago. I totally understand, and I applaud you for making the decision. It’s not an easy one, and many people don’t understand. Gaming isn’t less of an addiction than many other things that can take over our lives.

Sometimes balance cannot be found when the war that is being fought against us has so much potential. It takes a strong will to overcome that temptation. You won’t regret this.

Yeah – I’m glad for you…although videos games are not all bad, maybe it is best not to practice killing people for hours at a time.

  5. I appreciate your honesty and your guts to make a tough choice.

  6. i think that is awesome, we gave up tv when we moved to Pa due to money. i do not regret it at all.
we are 1 year away of being debt free, it is a great feeling.
stay the course you will thank yourself when you are older and have kids.

That’s EXACTLY why I canceled my City of Heroes account. When I saw how much time I was spending on it I realized I could have learned another language, started my own business, took some more college classes, learned a musical instrument. Heck, anything would have been more productive than the false sense of accomplishment you get from leveling up a video game character!

    Thanks for your honesty!

Got something to say? Go for it!
