self-differentiation

“Self-differentiation” is a term used to describe one whose emotional process is no longer ultimately dependent on anything other than themselves. They are able to live and function on their own without undue anxiety or over-dependence on others. They are self-sufficient. Their sense of worth is not dependent on external relationships, circumstances or occurrences.

I’m growing to learn this. I need to be able to press on and persevere without the approval of anyone buy Christ. If I am called to something, i need not rely on others for support, i need to follow Christ.

  1. I wonder how independent we were really created to be– it is great to be free in Christ to love and to follow Him even when others wont, but I wonder how much of our over-inidvidualized culture we are bringing to the table.
