Churches do things for a purpose.
Right?
I mean – ultimately – there was, at one time, someone who had a really, really good music for introducing the idea of a weekly sermon at church. There had to be a good, valid reason why Christians used to be so strongly associated with the proabition of alcohol. Someone’s gotta have a really solid reason as to why we meet at church every week.
But sometimes, those things get murky. Somewhere along the line we either forget WHY we do things or we forget to communicate WHY we do things.
You could walk into a church on Sunday morning and their entire service would feel like meaningless, empty tradition. You could also walk into a church that if singing the same songs and preaching the same sermon and it could feel like a revival.
People can’t really get on board with what you’re doing unless they know WHY it’s happening. And if they do try to spread the idea, it’s going to – somewhere along the line – morph into a meaningless, empty ritual.

So why DO we do the things we do?
If the Gospel isn’t the core, then one could call this an unchristian church. Without the Gospel what does the Christian have? There’s law, and then there’s Gospel. The law is our response with what we can do, and the Gospel is God’s response with what he can do. What’s greater? What saves?
What should we attract people into our churches with? JESUS CHRIST! Apart from saving faith in and through Jesus Christ, what hope do we have to know and be with God?
Keep thinking.
