OK, so I was reading Isaiah this morning and the prophet was going off on some people. He was going off on people because they had turned their back on God, they had forgotten God’s provision and God’s love for them. They thought they new what was best for them and they didn’t consider God’s authority.
So what are the prophet’s first instructions to the people? What does he say is the first step in getting back to the relationship they were meant to have?
Isaiah says this:
…learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.
The first thing God tells rebellious people to do is to look out for the poor, the orphans, and the widows. God didn’t tell them to go the temple. God didn’t tell them to read their Bibles more or join a small group. God told them to start giving to people that need.
Poverty. Injustice. Orphans. Aids. Hunger. Loneliness.
These are all worldwide epidemics. If we want to get back to a right relationship with God, we MUST take care of these.
