When Jesus was teaching, there probably weren’t many people who were apathetic towards what he was saying. They had to travel to see this dude talk. The disciples were guys who left their careers to follow him around.
The people Jesus taught CHOSE to hear him.
This is VERY different than our situations in church today. Often it seems that 80% (at least) who show up, would rather be anywhere else.
Jesus didn’t have teenagers showing up simply because they wanted to see their friends or play dodgeball. Jesus didn’t have families coming to hear him because going to hear him was a family tradition. People didn’t follow Jesus because their parents were in town. No one called them-self a Christ-follower because Jesus played the coolest music in town.
