Wednesday World Day {global US election}
Every wednesday I’m going to highlight something that is going on in the world (globally).
I’ve heard many times that, if the entire world was voting in the US presidential election, Obama would win by an alarmingly huge margin. That combined with the reports that most of the world is beginning to see the US as a bigger threat to peace than Iran, I think the US has a lot of cleaning up to do.
I found a little informal, global poll that gives some unofficial, unscientific results.
Enjoy
Party like BarackStar…
Barrack is going to make his acceptance speech at the democratic national convention. However, he’s doing things a bit different. He’s going to make his speech outside, in an open-air announcement. Admission will be free.
Genious. This move totally aligns with his campaign and his message.
How often do we do things that don’t align with our message?
Maybe our church talks about reaching out, yet only creates event at the church. Maybe they challenge people to get plugged into small groups, yet focus more about Sunday morning attendance.
What do the terms “liberal” and “conservative” mean?
Nate wrote a post that got me thinking: What do people mean when they say “conservative” and “liberal?” Some say Obama is the most “liberal” senator. I’m not sure what makes him so liberal. So, is Mccain a “conservative?” If so, why is he tagged as such?
Can someone please explain to me what the terms “liberal” and “conservative” mean?
Young Evangelicals, Elections, and Our Real Work (by Tim Kumfer)
Tim Kumfer writes a great post on the God’s Politics blog:
Polls show that show young evangelicals as voting increasingly for Democrats is all but a given. The temptation I pray we will avoid is hopping in bed with the Democrats like previous generations did with the Republicans. It is my hope, that instead of becoming more liberal, we would become more biblical. We need to be more realistic about partisan politics, both its capacity to exploit and use the church and its limits in creating large-scale social change.
Tiananmen Square: Stand Bold
This is a photo taken of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. A group of college students were protesting China’s communist government. I love this picture. I have the poster in my dorm. Everytime i see it I ask myself, “what sort of dedication and belief would cause this sort of action?”
What are things that you would stand up for?
What are some things that you would stand in front of oncoming tanks for?
What is you should be bold about?
